05/09/2011 - 07/09/2011: Faraday Discussion 155: Artificial Photosynthesis,Edinburgh, UK

There is a growing conviction that the only real prospect for our long-term energy provision relies on the ability to collect and store sunlight in the form of chemical potential. The creation of artificial systems to exploit the basic chemistry of photosynthesis to produce hydrogen or other fuels is a concept that crops up each time there is an escalation in the price of oil. In addition, we need to mop up the excess carbon dioxide left over from our present era of profligate fossil fuel consumption. The net result is an upsurge in the urgency to design effective artificial photosynthetic systems. This is a global problem which grows more important on a daily basis and it will soon become the dominant scientific issue.

18/04/2011 - 20/04/2011: Faraday Discussion 151: Hydrogen Storage Materials, Oxon, United Kingdom

Hydrogen is widely billed as the fuel of the future. For this to be a reality there is a pressing need for a safe, economic and reliable way to transport hydrogen, particularly for automotive applications. This has prompted a world-wide effort to develop novel materials that are re-usable and capable of storing and releasing significant (> 6 wt%) quantities of hydrogen.

Faraday Discussion 151 aims to bring together chemists, physicists and those working in materials science.

This, the 2nd International Symposium on Sustainability through Resource Conservation and Recycling '11 (SRCR '11), is organised by Minerals Engineering International in consultation with Prof Markus Reuter.

The rapid growth of the world economy is straining the sustainable use of the Earth’s natural resources due to modern society’s extensive use of metals, materials and products. An astute and conscious application and use of metals, materials and products supported by the reuse and recycling of these materials and end-of-life products is imperative to the preservation of the Earth’s resources. The realisation of the ambitions of sustainable use of metals, materials and resources demands that the different disciplines of the material and consumer product system are connected and harmonised.

I-SUP 2010 - 2nd International Conference on Innovation for Sustainable Production 2010 in Bruges

"Greening the economy" is not just a hype where we simply need to color the economy green. It asks for a fundamental rethinking of our consumption and production pattern.

We must seek to integrate product and process design, make a proper choice of materials and energy used, to interconnect between industries both downstream and upstream
but also with neighbouring industries and residential areas.
Only then we will be able to really achieve the promise of a sustainable economy and sustainable development.

This path is not a path of less but a path of growth with respect for and in collaboration with others. The very nature of sustainable development implies the interconnection and intertwining of economy and ecology.
It will be a path of revolution and not of evolution. Therefore it is only logic that a large international conference aimed at innovative sustainable production methods tries to intertwine different disciplines and methodologies.

i-SUP2010 will cover 6 separate international congresses at the same time and the same location, each aimed at a specific target audience of industry leaders, universities, research institutes and decision makers, covering such wide fields as:

Sustainable Production

Sustainable Chemistry

Sustainable Energy

Materials for Sustainable Production

Carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS)

In vitro methods replacing animal testing (CARDAM)

Each theme holds the contents of a full-fledged congress with key-note speakers, extended abstracts, presentations, appropriate poster sessions and their proper location.

The unique feature of i-SUP2010 lies in assembling 6 full quality international congresses at one large, attractive site i.e. Old Saint-John’s in Bruges.
The stimulating atmosphere and the opportunity for meeting and seeing other disciplines, scientists or industries offers the added value of i-SUP2010 over single topic international conferences.

i-SUP2010 believes that this integrated approach of meeting and conferencing will bring great benefit to all participants.

We look forward to meeting you in Bruges!

For more information please click here

14/03/2010 - 16/03/2010: MJSA Expo - New York,USA

Calling MJSA Expo New York a trade show is a bit like calling a beautiful ruby a rock. The words are accurate, but hardly sufficient.

Expo New York is, indeed, a trade show. Hundreds of exhibitors congregate there every year to sell nearly everything a jewellery maker could need short of a building. Thousands of qualified buyers walk the aisles to see, touch, and try out the tried and true and the innovative and new.

They need hand tools, components, and gemstones, but also money-saving alloys and labor-saving laser welders. They want to see the latest, fastest CAD programs in action, but also to find good deals on insurance and security.

Who Should Exhibit at MJSA Expo New York?
Eligible exhibitors include casters; refiners and metal suppliers; machinery, tool and equipment suppliers; findings manufacturers; gemstone, bead, and diamond dealers; chain and settings manufacturers; mold and model makers; mountings manufacturers, finished jewelry manufacturers, display and packaging manufacturers; security system providers; and computer software providers for business, design, and appraisals.
MJSA Expo New York offers exhibitors a variety of free and reasonably priced promotional opportunities.

Who Should Attend MJSA Expo New York?
Those in the jewelry industry looking for the latest in machinery, supplies, components, services, and finished product for their manufacturing business or retail store. Expo New York is a trade-only show, and all buyers must present photo IDs and business cards that indicate they purchase jewelry manufacturing supplies or finished goods for resale. No one under 16 years of age will be admitted under any circumstances.
