Activation of thioplatin in tumor cells

Waypharm has been granted the rights to evaluate Thioplatin, which is a novel platinum-based cancer therapy.

The right has been granted by Cancer Research Technology (CRT) and under the terms of the deal, Waypharm has an exclusive 6-month option to in-license worldwide development and commercialisation rights of the therapy.

Thioplatin uses platinum compounds that have enhanced activity under the hypoxic conditions of solid tumours, meaning that they are more effective at targeting and destroying tumours.

This approach may mean that higher doses of the drug may be allowed than in most current therapies, without the usual toxicities that can occur in other platinum drugs.

Waypharm will now work on an entry for Phase I trials, so that the new therapy can be progressed towards use on patients.
