Video camera powered by fuel cell technology 12th March 2004
Fuel cell technology has been incorporated into a video camera system by experts in Japan.
Jadoo Power Systems, which is a developer of portable PEM fuel cell power systems, revealed that it has agreed a deal to use the device with a CBS affiliate in Sacremento.
The NABII, as the camera is known, will be used by KOVR as part of the commercialisation of the technology, but the camera will be formally unveiled at the National Association of Broadcaster's show in Las Vegas in April.
Larry Bawden, President and CEO of Jadoo, commented: "Today marks the next chapter in power technology. The professional photographer now has a power solution that is flexible enough to accommodate all of their needs, as well as the increasing power needs of the newest camera systems."
"Instead of being beholden to their batteries, photographers using Jadoo's NABII fuel cell will enjoy benefits that no other power solution can provide," he added.
The new NABII provides a markedly increased battery capacity than standard units, with Jadoo estimating the fuel cell device to last three times longer.
PEM fuel cells produce electricity by combining hydrogen and oxygen over a platinum catalyst.
