The 2011 American Eagle Platinum Proof Coin from the US Mint goes on sale at noon (Eastern Time) tomorrow (May 26th).

Some 15,000 of the coins will be minted, and the price is to be based on the Mint's pricing policy for certain numismatic products containing precious metals.

Currently, platinum is trading at around $1,770 per troy ounce, which would put the coin's price at around $2,000.

The one-ounce platinum coin features the third reverse (tails side) design in the Preamble Series, which explores ideas behind American democracy by examining the six principles of the "preamble" to the US Constitution.

The tails side of the coin was created by US Mint artistic infusion program master designer Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill.

It depicts the harvest goddess emerging from a field of wheat, which the Mint says symbolises the size of the US and its diversity of views.

Inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 oz., .9995 PLATINUM and $100.

The three remaining coins in the series will be released over the next three years.
