URWERK utilises platinum casing in new model 21st August 2006
URWERK has released a collection of 50 of its exclusive new platinum encased watches.
The 103.05 Limited Edition model was engineered using a painstaking and time consuming platinum casing method. Engineers used a CNC machine for this process, a piece of equipment that is notoriously labour intensive as it must be regulated and thoroughly checked after each and every change of the case positioning.
In fact, to make a platinum case for the URWERK 103.05, engineers take approximately four and a half weeks to program the machine, three full weeks to adjust the tool positions and more than two days to make the case itself.
There are also 15 standard tools and eight special tools needed in the process which combine with six case position changes and five case constructions. Platinum casing also takes twice as long to polish and finish as gold does.
This time-consuming engineering process has combined to produce the platinum-cased URWERK 103.05 Limited Edition model. The watch has an arc of natural metal perlage tracing the minute chapter curve as well as incorporating palladium outline traces and a crenellated platinum case.
