Two Rivers platinum mine overcoming problems, says Arm exec 14th December 2007
The Two Rivers platinum mine is close to achieving its monthly run of mine production target and has overcome some of its early teething problems, according to the executive business engineer of African Rainbow Minerals (Arm).
Stompie Sher admitted that production at the joint venture between Impala Platinum and Arm had been hampered early on by commissioning problems and overheating of the mill gear boxes.
However, since then this has been addressed by the acquisition of lubrication pumps, adding extra oil coolers and changing the distribution of gearboxes, he told Mining Weekly.
Mr Sher did concede that more must still be done to improve metallurgical recovery at the project.
The Two Rivers Mine is expected to yield 120,000 oz of platinum per year when it is fully operational in the first quarter of 2008.
Projected output this year is set to stand at 100,000 oz.
