Toyota will run car production facilities at half volumes for a month from the beginning of May.

The car maker cited continued supply shortages following the earthquake and tsunami on March 11th that crippled output.

Last week, Toyota said it would restart work at all of its vehicle production factories from April 18th to the 27th.

Despite the sharp fall in output in recent weeks, the company will observe a national week of holidays and suspend operations between April 28th and May 9th.

From May 10th through to June 3rd the firm will produce cars at around 50 per cent of its planned output.

Production plans subsequent to this period will be determined by the availability of parts, the company said.

"TMC [Toyota Motor Corporation] deeply apologises to its customers for not being able to build every vehicle to meet their desired specifications due to limited parts," Agence France-Presse reports a Toyota spokesperson as saying.
