Top award for fuel cell bike 28th November 2005
A new motorbike that is powered by a fuel cell has won a major award for its innovative approach.
Intelligent Energy's ENV motorbike is the world's first bike designed from scratch with the intention to be powered by a fuel cell and its development has been awarded a Best of What's New accolade by Popular Science magazine.
Winning the award in the General Innovations category of this year's awards, the prize highlights the growing interest in fuel cell technology as well as its increasing importance on the world stage.
Engineered around Intelligent Energy's CORE fuel cell, which can be completely detached from the bike, the new product was given the accolade after Popular Science magazine chose it from thousands of new products as one of the 100 new breakthrough technologies for 2005.
"This award is deeply gratifying to the whole team at Intelligent Energy and shows that the world recognises and is ready for the great benefits of clean power that fuel cell technologies can bring to our economies and environment," Mark Lawson-Statham, chief operating officer at Intelligent Energy, told EV World.
A recent report from Frost & Sullivan suggests that fuel cell technology could take off in the coming months as plants struggle to meet the predicted energy shortfall.
