Theragenics and Oncura sign agreement for distribution of TheraSeed palladium-103 brachytherapy seeds 13th July 2010

Theragenics Corporation and Oncura have entered into a new arrangement concerning the distribution of a prostate cancer treatment solution which makes use of palladium.

Under the terms of the agreement, Theragenics will become the exclusive supplier of TheraSeed palladium-103 brachytherapy seeds to Oncura for the treatment of prostate cancer in the US and Canada.

The deal is subject to a number of pre-existing contractual obligations and will run through to 31st May 2013, with the option of a further year available should both parties view this as beneficial.

M Christine Jacobs, Chairman and CEO of Theragenics, said the company was "pleased" to be supplying Oncura with TeraSeed once more having previously done so from 2000 to 2005.

"Re-establishing our relationship with Oncura is a testament to the quality and reliability of Theragenics and TheraSeed in the brachytherapy industry," she commented.

Brachytherapy is a prostate cancer treatment option which can be used by some patients as an alternative to surgery.

The process involves the implantation of small, radioactive seeds inside the body to fight the disease.
