Tetronics partners with solar firm to recycle platinum group metals 5th July 2011

Tetronics has agreed a partnership deal with the solar industry to examine the opportunities for using plasma technology to extract platinum group metals, gold and silver from waste electrical and electronic equipment, as well as industrial and auto catalysts.

The supplier of plasma waste recovery plants has teamed up with Solar Applied Materials Technology Corps to roll-out plants in the Far-East.

Its patented technology, which is being delivered for installation in Taiwan, destroys harmful organic material that may be contained in the metals.

Dr Ma, chief operating officer for Solar, said the refining technology is important to the Taiwanese firm.

He added: "We are not simply buying a plasma solution, we are more importantly building on an already strong partnership with Tetronics that will see us leveraging other spent catalyst and related opportunities in Taiwan, China and further afield."

Solar is "confident" that the plasma technology offered by Tetronics provides higher levels of technical recovery than competing solutions, Dr Ma concluded.
