Tests show efficacy of new platinum cancer treatment 29th March 2004
GPC Biotech says that it is to reveal a significant level of progress in the development of its platinum-based cancer treatment at the 95th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research.
The firm says that it will chart progress at the Florida conference, with its Satraplatin anticancer treatment performing well.
"We are pleased to present new data on several of our anticancer programs at this important scientific meeting," said Marcel Rozencweig, senior vice president, drug development.
"The data presented today demonstrate the progress that GPC Biotech has made over the past year in developing potential new anticancer treatments."
According to the results, Satraplatin demonstrated good potential when tested in several human prostate cancer cell lines.
The compound was shown to be a "potent killer" of prostate cancer cell.
Satraplatin is a member of the platinum family of compounds, but unlike platinum compounds currently on the market, it is orally administered.
