Sylvania Resources sees pgm output slide in Q2 2010 2nd August 2010
Sylvania Resources has posted a sizeable pgm output decline for the second quarter of 2010, it has been confirmed.
The company revealed that it produced 6,937 oz during the three-month period, representing a decrease of 16 per cent from the previous quarter.
One of the main reasons for the slump was the suspension of the Lannex tailings facility in April over issues with the amount of tailings coming from the temporary dam.
However, Sylvania has now received its water licence and the construction of the new dam should be completed within the next three months.
As a result, the tailings facility, which treats feed from the Lannex mine, should ramp up to its full design capacity of 70,000 tonnes per month by the fourth quarter of 2010.
Sylvania Dump Operations, in which Sylvania holds a 74 per cent interest, also confirmed that four other pgm tailings facilities should reach full operation at roughly the same time.
Doornbosch, which will eventually treat 20,000 tonnes per month to produce 1,000 oz pgm per month, was commissioned earlier this month.
The other assets currently ramping up are the Millsell and Moonooi facilities, which saw pgm output rise by 2.9 per cent and 72 per cent respectively in Q2, and the Steelpoort facility, where pgm production slipped by 14 per cent.
