Sweden is preparing for a series of key trade shows designed to showcase its plans for developing alternative energy sources as it targets oil independence by 2020.
The Elmia Waste & Recycling and World Bioenergy events, held from May 30th to June 1st, have won the patronage of the country's king and also have the support of the prime minister.
Swedish prime minister Goran Persson will open the conference in Jonkoping after assembling a commission to scrutinise the issue ahead of ambitious plans to be the first country in the world to end reliance on oil.
The government says it is aiming to achieve complete oil independence by 2020, with bioenergy among the main facilitators for this goal.
Suppliers from across the world will meet at the events, sharing expertise and establishing partnerships.
Sweden is said to be Europe's foremost country when it comes to environmental protection according to a study released at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
