Suzuki launches fuel cell collaboration 8th February 2007

Automotive manufacturer Suzuki has teamed up with fuel cell systems firm Intelligent Energy, it has been announced.

The two companies are to work on the development of new prototype hydrogen fuel cell motorcycles.

Intelligent Energy hopes the move will help it to broaden its presence in the fuel cell market in Japan and deliver fuel cells for use in a mass market in the country.

Intelligent Energy's Chief Executive Dr Henri Winand said: "We are therefore delighted to announce our new partnership with the Suzuki Motor Corporation. This is an endorsement of Intelligent Energy's technology and of our ability to forge partnerships with leading industrial partners to accelerate the development and commercialisation of fuel cell-powered products."

Under the terms of the agreement, Intelligent Energy's existing proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell technology will be utilised for the development of the motorcycles, along with the development of compact and lightweight systems to make the vehicles commercially viable.
