Student rewarded for platinum nanotube research 19th October 2007

University of California Riverside student Zhongwi Chen's pioneering research into supportless platinum nanotubes is to be recognised with an award to be presented at a fuel cell expo.

Mr Chen, who conducted his research under a programme with fuel cell component manufacturer Pacific Fuel Cell, will be given the Bernard S Baker Award at the 2007 Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition.

George Suzuki, Pacific Fuel Cell Chief Executive Officer, said: "Mr Chen's research will advance the field of fuel cells. We are proud of his achievement and our partnership with him and UC Riverside."

The award is the culmination of several years of research by the Phd student into nano-structured membrane electrode assemblies for fuel cell applications, which has focussed chiefly on nano-catalyst preparation and nanocomposite exchange membrane fabrication.

Mr Chen will be presented with a medal and an award of $5,000 at the show, where he will also be presenting his research to delegates.

The Fuel Cell Seminar & Exposition show runs until October 19th and is expected to attract 2,300 attendees.
