Strike hits pgm production at Canadian miner 22nd July 2003
Inco Limited today (July 22nd) outlined the impact that the ongoing strike at its Ontario operations would have on its production of platinum group metals (pgm).
Although the firm delivered a reasonable annual performance, which saw adjusted net earnings total $65 million, the company acknolwedged that 'sensitivities' to the unresolved strike would remain.
Inco revealed that the strike had 'significantly affected production' and offered a prediction of how the firm expected its output to be affected.
If the strike continues for a further two months Inco expects pgm output to stand at 320,000 troy ounces.
Should it last for three months it anticipates production would fall to 280,000 troy ounces of pgm.
About 3,300 production and maintenance workers have been on strike against the mining giant since June 1st.
