Stillwater mine closes after accident 5th December 2003
Stilwater Mining, the pgm miner, has announced the partial closure of one of its mines following an accident on Wednesday.
Part of the mine, near Nye in Montana, has been shut to allow company officials, union representatives and members of the Mine Safety and Health Administration to conduct an investigation.
Mining activity has been resumed in all areas of the mine not affected by the accident, Stillwater has confirmed.
The company announced that one of its miners was drawn into and buried in an ore pass. He was rescued more than 12 hours later, and is in a stable condition in hospital.
The firm says that it does not expect production to be affected by the closure.
