St-Augustin begins extraction 7th February 2008
Ressources Minieres Pro-Or's St-Augustin-de-Desmaures plant is now a functional industrial plant and is ready for the extraction of platinum group metals (pgm).
Equipment has been fully tested and the plant is now operating and capable of treating about 60 tonnes of concentrates from recycled automotive catalytic converters each year.
This could generate annual gross revenue larger than $12 million and there is scope for a second reactor to be installed, although the plant would eventually need to be doubled in size.
On site, a laboratory monitors the concentration of the pgm throughout the different stages of the operation and the metallurgical engineer in charge of the operation, Alexandre Herbert, said concentration was about 80 per cent.
According to Mr Herbert this is above what is normally obtained through a conventional process.
The concentrates being treated by the plant come from Europe according to an agreement which was announced last August.
