Speculation grows over Aquarius 19th July 2005

Rumours are increasing that platinum mining company Aquarius may soon become a major takeover target.

Widely regarded as a well-run outfit, the firm is being singled out by a number of analysts as an ideal target, either for another major pgm miner, or possibly for another company looking to break into the platinum mining major league.

However, while the rumours persist, Nicholas Bias responded on behalf of the company, refusing to comment on any possible takeover bid.

Aquarius recently formed an alliance with Angloplat at the Kroondal mine intended to boost supply of platinum from the mine over the coming years.

The good position that this agreement gives Aquarius in the market place is another reason for the company being touted as a potential takeover target.

However, the company's agreements with Angloplat and other major miners could be a stumbling block to any takeover bid, as it is not clear whether those deals have any built-in pre-emptive rights.
