Southern African Resources to become African Platinum 25th May 2005
Southern African Resources has confirmed it is changing its name to African Platinum after winning approval from shareholders.
The name change will take immediate effect, while the firm's representation on AIM will be switched from SFU to APP from May 26th.
Chief executive Roy Pitchford welcomed the decision by shareholders, and said that the name change was part of a wider strategy shift at the firm.
He argued that it would help provide a more clearly descriptive identity, a factor particularly important in light of the firm's plans for a secondary listing on the American Stock Exchange.
"Given our exclusive focus on platinum group metals and our goal of building the premier pan-African platinum investment opportunity, we felt our old name was too generic to support our expanding corporate marketing campaign," he explained.
"'African Platinum' on the other hand states the nature of our business explicitly," he added.
African Platinum has a range of exploration rights in South Africa and neighbouring countries, including resources on the pgm-rich Bushveld Complex.
