South Africa's National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has reported that its members at Anglo Platinum's Modikwa mine have now returned to work.

The organisation had been locked in a dispute with Anglo Platinum and its partners at the mine, African Rainbow Minerals (ARM), for more than three weeks, but a deal has now been reached between the parties and operations began as normal at the mine on Monday.

However, the details on continuous operations at Modikwa - the main issue that caused the industrial action to drag on so long - are still to be finalised, Onis Serothwana, regional coordinator for the National Union of Mineworkers, told Reuters.

Reuters has also reported that a second strike in South Africa has now come to an end. The NUM has stated that miners at Impala Platinum have ended what the company claimed was an illegal strike at its Impala mine operation.

That strike began on Friday and is understood to be about medical issues at the firm. The NUM has now said that the workers are willing to engage with Impala on the issues concerning them and work at the mine has returned to normal.
