Sharp to increase LCD panel output by ten per cent 20th July 2009

Sharp is set to increase LCD panel production at its Kameyama Plant Number Two by ten per cent, EE Times Asia reports today (20th July).

The Japanese electronic manufacturer has revealed that it intends to improve production efficiency and lift monthly substrate input at the facility to 100,000 from August onwards.

According to the news provider, the move is largely motivated by an increased demand from consumers for televisions with LCD panels, which include pgms in their design.

Sharp originally announced in April that full operation had been achieved at the Kameyama plant, incorporating an input of 90,000 glass substrates per month.

The company intends to continue producing panels for its Aquos LCD televisions at the site, while also maintaining it as a model plant under its vertical integration production concept.

Sharp was founded in 1912 and takes its name from one of its first-ever inventions, the Ever-Sharp mechanical pencil designed by Tokuji Hayakawa in 1915.
