Shanghai Gold Exchange reports platinum boost 4th December 2003

The Shanghai Gold Exchange has reported an increase in the value of its transactions for the month of November.

Transactions reached 2.67 billion yen ($321 million) - the most impressive results since the exchange was set up in October 2002.

The performance of platinum, which was only introduced to the exchange in August, was exceptional, with  the value of transactions in November showing a 60 per cent improvement on that in October.

A total of 1,094 kg of the metal, worth 228 million yen ($27.5 million), was traded at the exchange in November - an average trading volume of 54.7 kg a day.

The increased volumes comes as retailers begin to stock up for the Chinese New Year, which begins on January 22nd, earlier than in in recent years.
