Say it with a platinum rose 14th February 2006
A single red rose is no longer the best way to express your love this Valentine's Day, with the creation of a platinum rose.
Available in Beijing's Guohua shopping centre, the specially designed flower is made entirely of platinum and is hoping to attract the eye of a romantic keen to offer something a little different this February 14th.
The life-size rose weighs around 258 grammes and has a price tag to match, currently costing 199,999 yuan ($24,691), according to Chinadaily.com.
Managers at the shopping centre are confident that the platinum rose will be purchased before the end of Valentine's Day and say that it expresses "purity, solidarity and eternity".
However, despite the Chinese demand for luxury items, it seems that buyers are happy just to look at the rose, with one shopper adding that the "price must be reasonable" for any romantic gifts.
