Samsung releases luxury platinum MP3 player 14th March 2005
Samsung has unveiled a new digital music player designed to appeal to the connoisseur, composed of platinum and diamonds.
The MP3 player will cater for the rapidly expanding personal music market, with the precious metal finish adding a touch of sparkle to the music player.
Samsung told IDEX Online that the device - which consists of platinum and 12 diamonds - will retail for less than $1,000.
Debuted at the CeBIT show in Hanover, the player is being posited as a serious piece of music equipment rather than a publicity stunt.
However, while the player does incorporate up to 1GB of memory an FM tuner and 3D sound, it echoes a line of goods recently using precious metals to target the luxury goods market.
Earlier this year an exclusive range of mobile phones called the Vertu Signature collection used a platinum finish to provide the ultimate luxury.
According to reports in the Sun, the exclusive £20,000 platinum phone now outranks the US 'Hummer' vehicle and Jacob & Co watches as the item soccer stars would most like to own.
England skipper David Beckham has already purchased one of the phones, while midfield partner Frank Lampard has also snapped one up.
