Saltigo highlights use of palladium for electronics industry 13th February 2007

Custom synthesis specialist Saltigo is to exhibit at the Informex show showing its products to the electronics industry, it has been announced.

Dr Andreas Depta, Business Manager of Electronic Chemicals at Saltigo's Speciality Chemicals Business Line, explained why the electronics industry increasingly needed to take advantage of synthesis techniques.

In particular he highlighted flat liquid crystal displays (LCDs) that require a number of functional and process chemicals, which are only accessible through "demanding synthesis routes".

Large scale production by Saltigo has used palladium-catalyzed aromatic aminations in quantities over a ton.

Palladium is used by the firm as a catalyst in Buchwald-Hartwig amination, which was developed by Dr Stephen L Buchwald from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and experts at Saltigo.

The Buchwald-Hartwig amination uses a palladium catalyst in the coupling reaction between an aryl halide and an amine and it is used by Saltigo to access arylated benzidines.
