Russian billionaires snap up platinum technology 19th December 2005

Mobile phones made with platinum are proving a big hit with Russian billionaires, as they snap up the latest in luxury goods.

Encrusted with sparkling stones and precious jewels, the phones are becoming a must-have item for every wealthy businessman who wants to be seen with the latest in stylish technology.

The popularity of these phones signals continuing growth of consumerism in Russia and an increase in the sale of high value goods in the marketplace, reflecting the current demand for luxury products in this emerging market.

These diamond studded phones come at a high price, with the most expensive range retailing at around $97,000, but also fulfil the role of a personal assistant for their owners, booking tickets and making dinner reservations.

Russian billionaires are not the only ones to be attracted to the luxury collection, as a number of Premiership footballers, including David Beckham and Frank Lampard, have previously been spotted with their jewellery-style mobiles.

It seems that the high-resolution displays, improved antenna and platinum finish are the latest trend in mobile style and appeal to those who "get bored" with the old designs, reports the Associated Press.
