The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been presented with platinum and diamond jewellery during their tour of Canada.

While visiting the Northwest Territories, the regional government presented the Duchess with a platinum and diamond pave brooch in the shape of the region's official polar bear logo.

It is made from 4.5 carats of diamonds mined locally at the Diavik mine, while the Duke was given a pair of platinum and diamond cufflinks made to the same design.

According to the Toronto Sun, there are more than 692 diamonds between the two pieces.

Robert Gannicott, chair and chief executive officer of diamond giant Harry Winston, told the publication: "What we have attempted to do here is to stay away from using large, prominent diamonds, but instead to use something that is of intricate design that reflects the sort of design you see in the beadwork and the craftsmanship in the Northwest Territories."

Kate Middleton is no stranger to jewellery featuring these two materials. For her recent wedding, she wore a platinum and diamond Halo tiara by Cartier that was lent to her by the Queen.
