Record production for Aquarius Platinum 27th July 2006
Aquarius Platinum has recorded record production of platinum group metals in its fourth quarterly results.
The group claimed that it increased its production by eight per cent during the quarter, while basket prices for the groups' pgm rose by 21 per cent to an average of $1,192 per ounces.
Among the results were record pgm ounces produced at the Mirikana and CTRP mines, which turned over 31,992 and 1,856 ounces respectively. Overall the group produced 128,162 pgm ounces during the quarter.
However, CEO Stuart Murray said that the quarter had not been entirely positive for the group.
"As we close the 2006 financial year, I am pleased to report that Aquarius, despite a tough quarter at certain operations, has continued to deliver increases in production at a time of great prices for the platinum group metals," he said.
"This quarter should, be recognised for our successes at Marikana, where the team has delivered a strong turn-around in ore quality, grade and tonnage, and the plant has achieved record recovery rates."
He added that the Mimosa mine "put in a sterling performance", with the Wedza IV upgrade commission likely to raise production during the 2007 financial year.
