Record production at Northam Platinum 3rd August 2006
South Africa's fourth biggest platinum miner Northam Platinum has reported record production figures for the last 12 months.
The company said that good grade control helped produce its best ever production levels of 361,399oz for the year ending June 30th.
The average combined head grade of 5.5 g/t was recorded over the year.
Metal sales were up 14 per cent on the comparable reporting period last year to 362,821oz, which contributed to what the company described as an "excellent year".
Overall tonnages milled were seven per cent higher year on year reaching more than 2.3 million tonnes.
Revenue saw a huge increase of 54 per cent, fuelled by a 37 per cent rise on metal prices from a year ago.
Chief executive Glyn Lewis said that the increased volumes had helped to contain operating costs.
"Unit cash costs were 0.5 per cent lower year on year; at the rand per tonne level good cost control is also evidenced by an increase of only 3.3 per cent," he said.
