Record pgm output for Eastern Platinum in June quarter 17th July 2009
Eastern Platinum revealed yesterday (16th July) that it enjoyed record pgm production at its mines in South Africa for the quarter ending in June.
The junior platinum producer confirmed that pgm output increased by 10.1 per cent on a year-on-year basis to 33,383 oz over the course of the three-month period.
According to President and CEO Ian Rozier, the rise can largely be explained by improved efficiencies in its stoping development and processing operations.
The company's results showed that stoping units were up by 13.8 per cent on a quarterly basis, while development meters were down 5.4 per cent from the first quarter and 22.4 per cent from 12 months earlier.
In addition, Eastern Platinum confirmed that 135,935 tonnes of tailings were processed at its Crocodile River Mine during the quarter after retreatment was resumed, with 695 oz pgm also recovered.
Following upgrades to the concentrator at the facility halfway through last year, recoveries remained fairly constant at 80 per cent, while head grade was up from four g/t to 4.2 g/t.
On top of the tailings, the company also revealed that it recorded 35,104 tonnes of run-of-mine stockpiles on surface in June 2009.
