Royal Bafokeng Platinum (RBPlat) says platinum production at its Styldrift 1 project will commence by the second quarter of 2015.

The mid-tier platinum group metal (pgm) producer also predicts steady state production at the mine to start by Q2 2017.

In a presentation on the firm's website, the miner also revealed that it is slightly ahead of schedule with the Styldrift 1 expansion, with just under 25 per cent of the project completed by October of this year.

RBPlat also showed that the project contains 16.2 million ounces of 4E pgms, with 7.7 million measured, 7.6 million indicated and 0.9 million inferred.

Earlier this year RBPPlat said Styldrift 1 would double the company's annual output to over 600,000 4E pgm ounces by the end of 2017.
