Production restarted at Platmin's Pilanesberg mine 10th September 2009
Platmin revealed yesterday (9th September) that operations have now resumed at its Pilanesberg platinum mine in South Africa.
The emerging pgm producer was forced to suspend activities at the facility after workers provided by mining contractor MCC Contracts conducted an illegal strike.
According to the firm, the industrial action - which involved the "non-recognition" of a second union at the Bushveld Complex western limb site - has now been resolved.
In addition, Platmin confirmed that most of the 500 MCC employees who were originally dismissed as a result of the activity have now been reinstated.
"The industrial action has delayed the ramp-up and commissioning programme, however mine management and MCC are actively working together on a remedial plan to catch up any lost production," read a statement from the company.
Platmin also has interests in a number of exploration and development projects on the eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex, located at Mphahlele, Grootboom and Loskop.
