Production begins at Slyvania Resources pgm recovery plant 12th June 2007
Sylvania Resources has begun operations at its Millsell platinum group metals (pgms) flotation plant, the company has announced.
The plant had initially been due to be operational in April but had been postponed on account of issues related to its commissioning including delays accruing from labour shortages and heavy rain.
The plant is the first of four pgm recovery plants planned by Sylvania, the second of which is to be based at Samancor's Steelport mine and is due to be commissioned in July of this year.
Meanwhile, the remaining two plants are set to be commissioned over the next 12 months.
The building programme has been jointly embarked upon with Samancor Limited, with whom Sylvania is also to build five chrome washing plants to treat chrome tailings dumps.
News of the developments comes after Sylvania last month revealed that it had raised £18.3 million of funding which is earmarked for acquisitions in South Africa over 2007.
