Production has resumed at Aquarius Platinum's Everest mine following industrial action that began last week.

On Wednesday (October 19th), the world's fourth-largest platinum producer said members of the Association of Mining and Construction Unions (AMCU) employed by contractor Murray & Roberts Cementation (MRC) had returned to work.

They had taken industrial action demanding full organisational rights from MRC in terms of the South African Labour Relations Act.

Aquarius said that an interim agreement had been reached between it and the AMCU to end the strike.

"Production has resumed this morning," the miner said, adding that it "will continue to foster the discussions between AMCU and MRC in order to reach a lasting solution to the dispute between them".

The industrial action was the result of a "technical dispute" between the AMCU and MRC, with no demands made on Aquarius.
