Potanin nominated to Norilsk board 14th June 2007

Norilsk Nickel's board of directors is to have a new member in the form of Interros president, Vladimir Potanin.

One of the two main shareholders in Norilsk, Mr Potanin has been nominated to the board of directors while the other main shareholder, Mikhail Prokhorov, was not mentioned as a candidate for the board.

The two men, who both own a 22 per cent stake each in Norilsk as well as a further four per cent from Interros, are in the process of dividing their joint business.

Mr Prokhorov resigned form his post as general director and president of Norilsk in April this year and the new announcement paves the way for Mr Potanin to take a greater role in Norilsk's affairs.

Norilsk confirmed in a statement that shareholders will vote on Mr Potanin's nomination to the board at its annual general meeting.
