Platinum thread lights up signature dress in Giovanni Cavagna’s collection 1st September 2004
Rising star in the world of couture fashion design, Giovanni Cavagna, has created a new dimension of dressing, highlighting the signature dress in his latest collection with fine threads of the world's most precious metal - platinum. The dress exudes elegance and style in a timeless, classic way but also expresses the unique personality of any person that wears it.
The dress is the end result of a fusion of Giovanni Cavagna’s creativity and an innovative new yarn developed by Lineapiu Group, the leading materials producer, renowned for their originality. The new yarn weaves synthetic fibres and the finest platinum thread into a delicate material that shimmers like no other fabric.
One challenge was sourcing platinum thread fine and flexible enough to keep the fabric light, yet sufficiently highly polished to provide the lustre characteristic of platinum. To achieve this Lineapiu Group turned to UK company Johnson Matthey, the world’s largest platinum group. They adapted a process developed for making platinum wire used in disposable thermocouples for the steel industry and the new yarn was born.
