Platinum provides world's most expensive Tequila shot 24th July 2006
A tequila drink bottled in platinum could provide the world's most expensive shot.
Speciality drinks maker Tequila Ley .925 launched its luxury limited-edition range of premium-quality tequila, selling for $225,000 (£120,000) a bottle.
The drink, encased in solid platinum, will not be sipped liberally by its buyers, setting British drinkers back as much as £6,000 a slammer.
"Tonight we are trying for the Guinness Book of Records with the most expensive bottle in the world," said Fernando Altamirano, the premium drinks company's chief executive, at a launch party.
He said that the new range was an example of the drinks produced by Tequila Ley .925.
"Since we started out, we began with the idea of making the finest, most expensive bottle of tequila in the world," said Mr Altamirano.
The drink's price is more due to the platinum bottle than the quality of the drink. The bottle is designed by Mexican artist Alejandro Gomez Oropeza and resembles a barbed sea-shell.
A "budget" range of gold and silver bottles will be available priced at $25,000 each.
