Platinum products offered for solar panel research 30th May 2006

An Australian company has made a platinum paste available to researchers wishing to look into Dye Solar Cell (DSC) technology.

The platinum paste is part of an expansion that will see 43 DSC-related products offered by Dyesol.

"Of course most of our products are geared towards the research community and include a range of electrolytes, ruthenium dyes, platinum and titania pastes as well as various single or multi-cell glass test plates, even some printed with a transparent nanoparticulate titanium paste," said Sylvia Tulloch, managing director of Dyesol.

DSC technology offers the possibility of developing alternative forms of energy production.

"Dye Solar Cell technology will eventually provide on-site power generation for existing and new buildings. Glass power generation tiles which produce electricity even in low light conditions and can be used to replace existing or new glazing are already a reality," added Mrs Tulloch.

"We don't yet know all the possible uses or forms of DSC technology."

Platinum is also used as a catalyst within test cells offered by the company.
