Platinum medical device patented 23rd December 2005
A patent has been granted to an innovative technology which uses platinum to help in the efficacy of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners.
Covering a "cardiac electrode termination pair", the patent refers to novel "tip" or "ring" electrodes which are made from a bio-compatible ceramic base.
That base can house pulse-delivering or sensing components, which can have an ultra-thin layer of platinum coated onto them to allow the impulses to be conducted into cardiac tissue.
The patent is one of two that has been granted to Biophan Technologies, which has developed the breakthrough equipment.
"We're excited to announce these latest patents, which further reinforce Biophan's position at the forefront of biomedical innovation," commented company chief executive Michael Weiner.
He explained: "These latest patents strengthen our toolkit of solutions to enable medical device manufacturers to make virtually any device safe and image compatible for use with MRI."
