Platinum jewellery roundup 28th September 2007
Platinum jewellery belonging to the iconic Princess Grace of Monaco is to be exhibited in New York this October. The late princess, who was also known as Hollywood superstar and Oscar winner, Grace Kelly, married Prince Rainier III of Monaco to live out an incredible fairytale. The exhibition will include her engagement ring, an emerald cut diamond set with two baguette diamonds and mounted in platinum. The ring demonstrates the timeless elegance of platinum, worn by princess Grace at a time when far fewer people could expect to afford a piece of platinum jewellery.
And proving that platinum remains as popular with the stars today as it did in Princess Grace's time, this year's Emmys saw a number of stars adorned with the precious metal. John Krasinski, up for an award for his role in the US version of hit comedy The Office, arrived wearing platinum cufflinks by Hearts on Fire believed to be worth $10,000.
Meanwhile, Hollywood stars also took the opportunity to walk down the red carpet in platinum. Among the guests at the Emmys were leading lady Michelle Pfeiffer. The former Catwoman chose to wear a diamond wide cuff bracelet set in platinum, together with diamond chandelier earrings, created by renowned platinum designer Neil Lane. And The Departed's Mark Wahlberg arrived wearing diamond and black onyx shirt studs set in platinum from Kwiat.
Meanwhile, Ivanka Trump, daughter of property magnate Donald, launched her own collection of high-end jewellery during September, including a number of pieces made in platinum. According to Elle, Ms Trump has launched a range of diamond and platinum earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings.
Tiffany has announced a further expansion to its empire, with plans to launch a new store at the Westfield Topanga luxury retail centre in Canoga Park, California. "Westfield Topanga is ideally located just minutes from Malibu and the Santa Monica mountains, and our prime location amid the centre's elegant, open atmosphere is also ideal," explained Beth O Canavan, Tiffany's Executive Vice President. The new boutique is set to be opened in April 2008 and will have approximately 5,100-square-foot of floor space, the jeweller has announced.
