Mobile phone makeover company, Goldstriker, has announced the creation of a new platinum plating for iPods. The UK company specialises in giving iPods and mobile phones designer makeovers and is renowned for creating gold and silver coverings for the devices. However, the company announced in December the launch of its first designs for a platinum version of the iPod nano 3G version of the gadget. The new platinum plated iPods will be available in January, the company has stated.

High-end jewellery retailer Tiffany announced promising results for its end-of-year sales, the company announced in December. The jeweller, which distributes high-end jewellery including platinum items in its boutiques throughout the world, raised its sales forecast for the whole of 2007 as it anticipated strong demand during the festive season. While consumer spending is anticipated to slow in the US this year due to the impact of the credit crunch, Tiffany appears confident that demand for its luxury goods will remains high.

Platinum engagement rings proved to be a hit with celebrities during 2007, a new list has revealed. BridalStars' Top Ten Celebrity Engagement Rings of the past 12 months included five platinum pieces, with Brittany Murphy's two Neil Lane engagement rings topping the poll. Ivana Trump's platinum ring, which was designed by her daughter Ivanka, came fourth in the list. Just one place behind Ivana Trump was Charlie Sheen's choice of platinum engagement ring for his beau, Brooke Mueller. And in tenth place in the list was The Hills star Heidi Montag's unusual platinum engagement ring. Fiance and co-star Spencer Pratt presented Montag with a platinum engagement ring topped with a
lemon amethyst, rather than the traditional diamond.

The Pink Ribbon Line has proved to be one of the must-have jewellery items this Christmas in the US, with a platinum and pink sapphire pendant proving popular as a holiday gift. The pendant was commissioned by the Platinum Guild of America and the design features a stunning pink ribbon, the universal symbol for breast cancer awareness.

Jewellery sales in China increased during November 2007 by an impressive 18.8 per cent compared to the same month the previous year, Jewellery Net Asia reported. The increase is the highest year-on-year rise recorded for 11 years and was even higher than the traditionally popular month of October. That month includes the Golden Week holiday, but sales of jewellery continued to soar into November.
