Platinum jewellers gear up for Orogemma 31st August 2005

The jewellery market is preparing for this year's Orogemma event in Vicenza, which has become a must for all jewellery retailers.

The event is perfectly timed to take advantage of trends in the jewellery retail industry, because being just a few months before Christmas, Italian and foreign businessmen often schedule short-term purchases.

Platinum is set to be the metal of most interest at this year's event, given its growing popularity on the world stage, and particularly in China.

This year's Orogemma – now in its 28th year – will also feature a major exhibit on jewellery trends, centred around the "Shapes of Jewellery – Visions" pavilion.

Various merchandise will be on show, including platinum items of costume jewellery, watches, plaques and semi-finished goods.

Platinum jewellery is becoming increasingly popular with celebrities, as seen from tennis stars Serena Williams, who recently played in the US Open wearing platinum earrings, and that success with the stars has helped make the metal more popular with the public.
