Platinum coin found in £3,000 mince pie 17th November 2011

The traditional sixpence has been dropped in favour of a solid platinum coin in a mince pie going on display at a shopping centre in east London.

Worth a reported £3,000, the pie also contains a platinum leaf, holy water from Lourdes and ambergris sugar from sperm whales, according the London Evening Standard.

It will be on display for a month at the Marvellous Mince Pie Manufactory in The Exchange shopping centre in Ilford, before shoppers will have the chance to win the prized pie on December 19th.

Andrew Stellitano, who made the pie, said: "It's an extremely intricate design."

Other creations from Astarism, which Mr Stellitano runs, include the Gucci Tiramisu, which was commissioned by AnOther Magazine to turn Gucci creative director Frida Gianni's cake design into reality for the publication's tenth Birthday.
