Platinum chosen for world's most expensive phone 17th July 2006

The precious metal platinum has been selected as the desired material for what looks set to become the world's most expensive mobile phone.

Platinum has been used for the body of the handset, according to UK entertainment website Gizmag.

The website said that the phone can also be ordered with the platinum treated with a black rhodium process to give it a black, shiny appearance.

Jeweller Peter Aloisson was commissioned to create the phone, which is a version of Swiss Crypto Telecommunication Security's Crypto Smart telephone.

It is thought that the phone will be sold for $1.3 million, which will make it the world's most expensive.

In addition to the platinum body, the navigation keys are made of 18-carat rose gold, as is the navigation key which also carries 28 round cut diamonds.

Its leather carrying case also features platinum trimmings as does its presentation box.
