Platinum catalyst research scientist named Professor 6th February 2008
A scientist who is studying the development of hydrogen fuel cells with low concentration platinum has been appointed the Claire D. LeClaire Professor of Chemical Engineering.
Jingguang Chen takes up the position "in recognition of his distinguished scientific career and his service to the University of Delaware and beyond".
University of Delaware Provost, Dan Rich announced the appointment while Michael J Chajes, the Interim Dean of the College of Engineering, praised Mr Chen's work.
"He has pioneered and further developed important areas of chemical engineering related to the rational design of carbide and bimetallic catalysts with desirable catalytic activity and selectivity," Mr Chen said.
Mr Chen and a colleague have been working on a system to make the creation of hydrogen fuels cheaper and more stable through the use of low concentrations of platinum.
The project has received $4.6 million of funding from the US Department of Energy and Mr Chen is well-known for his work in the field of catalysis and practical catalysts, according to UDaily.
