Personalised wedding jewellery 'increasingly popular' 6th February 2006

Wedding rings are becoming more and more personalised, with platinum jewellery having a major impact on the trend.

According to Alfred Schneider, managing director of the Federal Society of Jewellery and Watches in Pforzheim, Germany, both partners preparing for their wedding are now more likely to have their rings made specifically to meet certain requirements so that their wedding jewellery can be lasting symbols of their love.

Mr Schneider adds that platinum is now a "major player" among couples who prefer to shun traditional, mass produced wedding bands for more personalised designs.

In Germany, there is now a growing trend among couples to make their wedding rings themselves, so that the items are even more unique.

Goldsmith Mareike Hintze claims that even those people who have no experience of making jewellery can design and make their own wedding rings from platinum and other precious metals and courses exist across Germany to help engaged couples to get the skills to create their very own rings.

Platinum bridal jewellery has become increasingly popular across the world in recent years, with experts predicting that the Chinese market will be the next to see a massive rise in demand for platinum wedding jewellery.
