Oscar winner accepts it in platinum 2nd March 2007

Oscar winner Forrest Whittaker accepted his award wearing some stunning platinum accessories.

The star, who scooped the Best Actor award for his role as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland, wore platinum cufflinks and shirt studs by Kwiat as he arrived on stage to a rapturous reception.

Whittaker was not alone in choosing platinum for the occasion, as stars from Leonardo Di Caprio, Beyonce Knowles to Madonna also chose the precious metal for the event.

Di Caprio opted for a $175,000 Master Minute Repeater platinum watch, while Ms Knowles went with platinum, diamond and jade earrings and Madonna was spotted in platinum and sapphire cocktail ring, earrings and bracelet.

They were joined by Cate Blanchett, in platinum and diamond earrings and Jennifer Lopez, who wore $400,000 worth of platinum earrings and rings.

Commenting on the high visibility of platinum jewellery at the awards, Platinum Guild International Sr. Vice President, Michael O'Connor, said: "Platinum is the first metal A-list celebrities look for when choosing jewellery, because they know platinum is the best. They choose to wear it as a symbol of their success and status in Hollywood."

The unprecedented amount of platinum jewellery-sporting stars at the awards followed the Red Carpet Platinum Jewellery Preview, where stars including Diane Kruger and Kate Flannery were treated to limited edition platinum-engraved iPods and were offered $14 million worth of jewellery to wear to the ceremony.
