Operations resume at Marikana 27th December 2007
Aquarius Platinum has announced that operations have resumed at its Marikana mine following an illegal strike by contractors.
Employees of underground contractor Murray & Roberts Cementation had been on an unprotected strike, causing Aquarius Platinum to lose in the region of 500 oz of platinum group metals (pgms) per day in production.
Overall, the temporary shutdown caused by the industrial action resulted in 3,000 oz of pgms being lost at Marikana, half of which is attributable to Aquarius Platinum, with the other half being attributable to Anglo Platinum.
Production began in part on Friday December 21st, but full production has now resumed at the mine.
Aquarius Platinum said in a statement that the lost production would not be made up during the fourth quarter of 2007.
