The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) has announced it has brought an end to its industrial action at Anglo Platinum's Rustenburg operation.

Around 1,500 members of the union had been on strike since Monday over claims that Anglo Platinum had reneged on a wage deal that had been reached through mediation.

However, NUMSA spokesperson Mziwakhe Hlangani stated that the strike had now been called off because the organisation now felt its disagreements with Anglo Platinum could be resolved by negotiation.

Simon Tebele, Anglo Platinum's spokesman, said that the industrial action at the company's smelter had not had any impact on production levels.

Speaking to Reuters, Mr Tebele reiterated his comments made earlier in the week that the strike was not causing any disruption to the company's output.
